TALK a conversation with Estelle Zauner-Maughan

Estelle has been the personality behind Naturally Chiropractic since 2002, when she fulfilled her dream of opening her own practice by the sea.

It has been 15 years since you started Naturally Chiropractic, have you achieved everything you planned? My initial dreams have all come to life, but as the practice grows and I get older, those dreams keep evolving too. It makes me really happy and excited to see those dreams live and breathe. I hope I always keep growing and learning and setting the next lot of goals high. I don’t mind failing, but I’d hate not to have tried.

Is that because chiropractic keeps changing – or just you?  Both! Health, life and peoples journeys fascinate me. Learning more about advances in our knowledge and how I can use that to make our practice, my own life and the lives of our clients better keep me interested in doing better. I have learnt a lot over the years in dealing with my own health challenges and I really feel that without chiropractic care my life would look very different indeed.

How is that so? Even before my skiing accidents and several years of corrective surgeries I could see that life had so much more to give, that I could be happier, healthier and more confident if I just stretched myself and tried doing things a little differently to the norm. Living Naturally was a way for me to bring some of the knowledge I have gained to our clients. Perhaps someone would be inspired to take just one step in a different direction which may change their health or direction in life.

Do you ever wish you had done it all differently? I try to be really positive about the lessons of life, even the tougher ones. Mum used to constantly say how important it was to pick myself up and carry on whenever I fell as a kid. I wish I had started changing things a lot earlier in my life, but I am really happy with the person I am today. All because of those lessons.

What about the Estelle you become when you step out of work? I’m pretty much still the same person, but I love nature and photography, which are my balances to the focus of practice. My other big loves are my husband, the two cats, scuba diving and getting out into the hills. Being in the mountains or under the water with a camera gives me an enormous sense of peace and space… yet I share these activities with people I love wholeheartedly and can be myself with. It’s all about balance.
