Some like it HOT!

At the practice –––>

We often get asked a lot of questions about how to help yourself between adjustments and one of the most frequent questions is whether heat or ice is best… I thought I would talk about heat this time as it’s

the one we all want to hear suggested when the weather is as awful as it is currently.

I recently spent a rather pleasant hour in the beachside sauna on Longsands run by Steam and Salt – I walked out feeling no aches and pains along with a complete lightness of spirit and mind. I slept like a log that night… absolutely the best way to spend some time! So let’s look more closely at the benefits of heat….

Stress reduction, increased circulation (and lower blood pressure), pain relief, improved breathing/respiration, detoxification, weight loss and even cognitive benefits. That’s a whole load of benefits to slowing down, enjoying some warmth and some time to just breathe and think without tech. Infra-red light therapy has the same benefits as a sauna, but at a lower heat and with the added benefits of increasing wound healing, tissue repair and reducing inflammation. Infra-red has also been shown to be helpful in autoimmune conditions due to its inflammation reducing properties.

As long as you have not got a recent injury with lots of inflammation, heat has its benefits. Indeed, regular time in a sauna or under an
infra-red light or blanket has a whole parcel of positives attached. You may want to avoid a sauna or heat session if you are ill or dehydrated (consult your doctor if you have ongoing health problems or are unsure). It’s important to drink plenty of water before, during and after your sauna sessions.

We are pleased and excited to announce our new practice events.

Over the next month or so we we will begin a series of monthly talks that aim to educate the different generations on how to manage their personal healthcare. We will discuss diets, alternative therapies and physical activities that can be built into our daily lives and carry us through from our youngest to most senior years.

We hope you will join us – and bring along friends and family –
everyone is welcome! Please ask at reception for dates and details,
or give call us a call.
