July 2021 – news                                   Home

Over the next few months, we are going to focus on body parts and the role they play in our health. This month it’s FEET…

They may seem like one of the weirder – and least pretty – parts of our bodies but they play an important role in how our brain sees the world. Apart from the obvious need for them, we also use them for balance, both physically and mentally. Keeping our feet in touch with the ground is important too as they ‘read’ the earth, sending impulses to our nerves and then signals to our brain. Walking barefoot or using barefoot-style shoes allows all the joints and nerves in our feet to work better. Also, ‘earthing’ is a great way to destress and calm the body. Earthing, by the way, is just walking in the grass or on the earth (beach, soil, rocks).

Better foot mechanics, can also lead to improvements in our hips, knees, and core. But more about that another day.

After so much news last month, this time we are a bit light on events. However, Jo and Vanessa are both back and helping clients, while Estelle is seeing a few new patients to assess their future requirements. She should be back to a full calendar in a few weeks. Please call in or you can book an appointment here.

Summer heralds the arrival of all sorts of lovely, crunchy vegetables to indulge in. A favourite is a Vietnamese style chicken salad. Simply mix all the main ingredients in a large bowl; mix the dressing ingredients in a small bowl and leave to steep until you are ready to eat. Pour the dressing over and serve.

Ingredients

140 gms cold cooked shredded chicken; 140 gms shredded cabbage; a

small bunch each of chopped fresh mint and coriander; 2 shredded carrots; 1 thinly sliced red onion and 25g chopped roasted peanuts (or cashews).
Dressing:

1 small red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped; zest and juice 1 lime;

1½ tbsp each fish sauce, wheat free soy sauce, coconut oil and a teaspoon or so of sesame oil.
